The embodiment of a waterfront retreat, this classic Cape Cod home designed by Purple Cherry Architects is located on the Chester River, a major tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. The homeowners wished to construct a home that presented from the approach as a smaller scale, rambling structure, yet opened up on the waterside to maximize views from the second-story bedrooms.
Stunning materials and details such as cedar shake roofing, copper gutters and downspouts, and engaged columns grace the exterior, creating a warm and inviting facade. The well-balanced rear elevation features symmetrical roof lines, Chippendale railings, and rotated ellipse windows with divided lites.

The interior of the home remains traditional but also incorporates contemporary touches. Upon entry, guests are greeted by a double-height gallery hall and an elliptical arched doorway leading to the great room. The owners wanted their home to be comfortable for just the two of them and at the same time designed with entertaining in mind.
The main level floorplan presents an open concept layout along with a “winter room” – or a cozy second living room – allowing for intimate and large gatherings alike.
