Herlong Architects is responsible for the design of this stunning beach-style home located on James Island, a town in Charleston County, South Carolina. The original home on this site was outdated and when the new owners purchased the property, they had it removed.
This sprawling location gave the architects plenty to consider, such as how they were going to maximize the space and where they were going to site the home. They spent a lot of time on the property determining how best to site and position all of the various elements to maximize every view and every tree. They also considered how best to create buffers and provide a sense of intimacy and privacy.

This home is in an existing community of homes so the architects attempted to ensure that the dwelling sits very comfortably in this setting, within the neighborhood, and among other homes in the area. With the help of the owner’s vision; after already having found the property and removed the house, they were able to see the value of their property.
What We Love: This gorgeous coastal home is surrounded by natural beauty, from the large oak trees to the lush landscaping. A charming exterior facade invites you into this luminous dwelling where beautifully crafted details can be found throughout. The architects did a fabulous job of creating an indoor-outdoor connection through large windows and doors, drawing nature inside for a feeling of tranquility.
