An organic modernist apartment is an oasis overlooking New York City

This spectacular organic modernist apartment was designed by Becky Shea Design, located in the West Village, a neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City, New York. Floor-to-ceiling steel grid windows capture sweeping views over the Hudson River along with magnificent city views from almost every direction.

A rarity in NYC, natural light permeates the space throughout, making it calming, yet energizing, a sanctuary in the heart of it all. A heavy emphasis was placed on neutrality, as part of our design approach was to ensure a timeless aesthetic for the homeowner to enjoy for not just years, but decades to come.

Each room was uniquely designed with multiple layers of texture that define the space independently while complimenting each other in a cohesive and syncopated environment across the entire home.

The space is a blend of California sophisticated casual with a hint of NYC edge, making it a balanced, timeless space. The project team procured several of the pieces during an LA source trip, which was very fulfilling to see it come to life with all the other elements in NYC.

The homeowner was extremely open to a neutral palette, as she wanted this space to be a calming oasis the moment she stepped foot through the door after a stressful day of work.

A wide variety of textures were layered in by way of textiles, woods, steel, and leather. Staying true to the designer’s holistic design process, it was really important for them to have cohesion across each room while still maintaining a certain level of independence from one another.

This was achieved through thoughtfully planning the use of similarly mixed mediums, but with their own unique color story to give personality to each space.

What We Love: This organic modern apartment provides a chic and stylish home for its owner with fabulous views of both the city and nature. The layering of textures brings added warmth throughout the interiors. We are loving every detail of this home, especially the 400-square-foot outdoor living space, a rarity in the city that was created to feel like a California oasis. It is an idyllic space to relax and entertain.
