Check out this delightful beachfront summer house on Martha’s Vineyard

This relaxing beachfront summer house was designed by ROAM Architecture in collaboration with Rentschler & Company Interiors, overlooking Chilmark Cliffs on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. The homeowners were adamant about maintaining a simplistic, rustic look with clean lines so familiar to the context of the island.

It was important to the homeowners to create a special, laid-back, and comfortable place that they could enjoy with their family year-round. Drawing inspiration from a small, existing beach cottage found on this site, this new home keeps true to its humble and simplistic roots by utilizing the exposed stud aesthetic reminiscent of a simple beach structure. The house encompasses roughly 3,775 square feet of living space with an additional 2,200 square feet of finished living/entertaining area in the basement.

In order to fit in with the existing nearby homes and to maintain the context of the homes on the island, the home was designed as a single-story residence with cedar shakes and stone so familiar to the area. On the interior, crisp, white shiplap sets a dramatic backdrop for dark stained mahogany windows which frame the incredible views towards the ocean beyond.

What We Love: This attractive family beachfront summer house provides generous gathering spaces along with an eat-in kitchen that separates the owners’ suite from the sleeping quarters for both children and guests. An expansive lower level offers an abundance of entertainment and recreation opportunities with seamless access to the great outdoors. Overall, we find this home to be warm and inviting with a laid-back, beach-chic vibe that is perfect for family vacations.
