Historic Dutch barn becomes a blissful home in the Sawtooth Mountains

This historic New World Dutch Barn was reimagined by Miller-Roodell Architects, nestled in the foothills of the Sawtooth Mountains in Stanley, Idaho. The barn was disassembled in the upper Hudson Valley of New York and reconstructed in its new location in Idaho, bringing with it a unique history dating back to the Revolutionary War.

According to Heritage Barns, a true New World Dutch Barn contains all the features of a Dutch Barn including:

  • The basilica floor plan with the nave and two side aisles.
  • The unique “through” tenons piercing the arcade posts.
  • One-piece wall and purlin plate beams cut from over forty-foot-long logs.
  • Roman numeraled “marriage marks” throughout the frame used by the original craftsman to assemble the barn.

Encompassing 3,100 square feet of living space, this dwelling is complemented by the owners’ found artifacts from the last two hundred years, lending character and style to this already unique home.

A Bike Barn designed with reused, reclaimed, owner-provided Douglas Fir timbers houses all the gear needed for long days playing in the surrounding mountains, including a wash station to keep all of the gear in ship-shape. This dwelling is as at-home in the mountains as the active family that lives in it.

I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest and now live in northern AZ and this house makes me homesick… Very nicely done and not over done which is nice! All the fixture selections are top notch and fit the design so well. I wouldn’t change a thing if I were to buy this house and I would make it my permanent home!
