Recent empty nesters, the owner’s wanted the style of their home to be an infusion of modern architecture with sophisticated, vintage décor, with a natural incorporation of the colorful antiques they had collected from their travels. With expansive stretches of glass on the windows, doors, and stair handrails, and with rich textures from the organic elements brought in, this dwelling embodies warm, modern design.
Above: A combination of painted steel and light wood accents create a warm and inviting, yet modern feel for this dwelling.
The staircase is an especially unique feature of the home and blends the set of stairs from the foyer with the main staircase that connects all three levels of the home. The stairwell also showcases a unique lighting feature which required technical precision to achieve. At certain places on the walls the tiles concave outward to create recessed pockets where light fixtures were installed, resulting in cross-shaped glows of light throughout the stairwell.
The main living level is situated in an open plan, with the great room and kitchen overlooking the bluff and ocean beyond, while the outdoor patio cantilevers over the slope to maximize views and floor space. The lowest level is a bit more cozy, with family room, gym and one of two secondary bedrooms.
What We Love: This inviting seaside home offers an expansive floor plan spread out over three levels, separating public and private spaces. Walls of glass open to reveal a wonderful loggia and entertainment space off the family room, providing an idyllic spot for the owners to lounge and enjoy ocean views. Overall, this wonderful home provides inspiring details throughout, while offering a relaxed California vibe.
