This project involves the renovation of a midcentury gambrel cabin by Tinsel House, nestled in the woods of the Tahoe Donner Community, near Truckee, California. Enchanted by its vintage character, the designer set out to infuse new life into this 1973 built house that features floor-to-ceiling views of picturesque Martis Valley.
Encompassing 1,600 square feet of living space, the designer retained some of the original character of this home, including the soaring beams and wood-burning stove. A fresh coat of paint was added to the walls and paneling in a warm, neutral palette. On the lower level, carpeting was removed, while the upper-level bedrooms and loft received brand new carpet.
What We Love: This midcentury gambrel cabin offers its inhabitants a fantastic indoor-outdoor living experience, surrounded by a tranquil environment. The designer did a beautiful job of preserving the original character of this home while injecting her personal design style throughout. We are especially loving the inviting atmosphere and the cozy nook under the staircase for the kids!

Above: Large windows capture unforgettable views of Martis Valley.
Above: Dead space under the stairs was transformed into a nook for kids, featuring hanging lights, a cozy rug, layering of pillows, and games.
Above: On the front porch, Adirondack chairs offer a comfortable spot to relax while enjoying the tranquil views surrounding this home.
Above: In the kitchen, floating shelves consist of live-edge wood, while a white subway tile backsplash offers a clean and crisp aesthetic. The cabinets were given a fresh coat of paint and the hardware was updated. An industrial light fixture above the island adds visual interest.
Bathrooms were updated with new tiling, hardware, tubs, and showers.
