An historical home built in the 1890’s has undergone a beautiful main floor renovation by Bria Hammel Interiors along with builder Hyyge Hus, located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The owners purchased their historic home in 2013 and, as their family grew over the years, they realized it was time for a remodel.
Previously, the spaces on the main floor were blocked off from one another and they wanted their kitchen, breakfast nook, and living room to feel more open to each other. Above anything else, they wish for their refreshed living spaces to feel harmonious with their home’s historical past.
The overall aesthetic was relatively minimalistic — yet not too modern — and embraced some of the classic, traditional details that the entire home features. The project team collaborated with the Historical Society Association (HSA) during the construction phase to ensure they were keeping the integrity of the home. The team worked tirelessly to match some of the existing details in the renovation, i.e. molding continuity and wood floor stain matching.

What We Love: This reimagined historical home features light and airy living spaces that harmoniously flow from one to the next. Tearing down walls created a more efficient, open plan design while enabling a feeling of spaciousness and extra light. The new kitchen is simply stunning, with its white marble countertops, contrasting cabinetry, open shelving and incredible walk-in pantry.
