Country farmhouse with an inviting modern twist in Connecticut

Fletcher Development is responsible for the design of this country farmhouse set in the countryside of Redding, a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The builder purchased an apple orchard just five minutes from where he had grown up. The intent of building on this property was to have a home conducive to entertaining overnight guests year-round. Every weekend guests are invited to stay, and each guest is given custom robes with the name of the homeowner’s street imprinted on them.

To make this home spacious enough to host guests, the builder opted for an open floor plan layout, centered around an oversized stone fireplace. The fireplace also makes an idyllic backdrop for cozy winter gatherings. Design details throughout this home were inspired by the homeowner’s high-end residential building experience. This includes the ceiling detail, open-tread staircase, and the custom milled, character-grade white oak floors with an oiled finish.

What We Love: This beautiful country farmhouse offers its inhabitants a lovely home to frequently entertain guests. A beautifully designed open floor plan is conducive to hosting family and friends. Floor-to-ceiling windows not only bring in natural light but help to frame the tranquil countryside views that surround this home.

The goal for the interiors scheme was to create a classic look with a modern twist. The homeowner wanted the overall feel to be timeless. The interior designer helped to soften and modernize this home from its man-cabin-ish roots while adding personal touches. Character was infused into the palette in the form of images that reflect the homeowner’s travel experience and passions. The vibe of a home can be easily changed with the addition of artwork.

Above: A floor-to-ceiling temperature-controlled wine wall provides a visual delineation between the dining and family room spaces. It also creates an attractive semi-transparent feature that retains the open feel of the ground level, yet is also highly functional. As one can imagine, when entertaining guests on a continual basis, you will go through a lot of wine!
