Beautiful family vacation retreat poised high on Lake Michigan shoreline

This transitional style family vacation retreat was designed by Robbins Architecture, set high on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, in the village of Harbert. The property showcases incredible lakefront views, making this an idyllic location for a home. The architects worked with the site’s constraints, preserving the mature trees on the property, while maintaining the existing landscape wherever possible.

Project Team: Architect: Robbins Architecture / Interior Design: Berta Shapiro Design / Landscape Architect: Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects / General Contractor: Nitz Design Builders / Structural Engineer : Abetangelo Hason Ltd.

The entry court features a large oak tree, greeting family and friends upon arrival. An interior layout features a perfect balance between the main living spaces and the private bedrooms and baths. A common room combines an open plan kitchen, dining and living spaces with a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows framing views of the lake. The color palette was inspired by the nearby sand dunes, boasting clean whites and warm woods, a nod to the region’s coastal aesthetic.

What We Love: This family vacation retreat offers a continuous display of welcoming views of Lake Michigan from every room of the home. Beginning with the front entry, you can see all the way through to the main living area, which frames lake views through large windows. Even the upper level bedrooms offer idyllic water views, making this an inviting and relaxing home to take a vacation! …Readers, what do you think of this home, what details caught your eye?
