2. In this backyard design, the decking material is Ipe, while stacked blue stone was used under the columns. The ceiling is tongue & groove redwood, painted in Decorator’s White High Gloss. 4. This beautiful courtyard space offers privacy thanks to the pleached hornbeam trees. They are great trees for screening and in the winter they lose their leaves at a slow rate. There was minimal space for plantings in this courtyard, the the designers used vertical space to create “living walls”. 10. A beautiful terrace for entertaining features a privacy screening that is a Cedar slatting painted in a weatherproof wash. This helps to give it a bleached out/weathered look. The purple flowers are Verbena bonariensis, while the climbing plants are Trachelospermum jasminoides. The custom fabribcated pillows were made up out of old Turkish Kilims. 14. The teak outdoor furnishings are from Smith and Hawkins, found at Target. The plants in the large pots on either side of the painting are Evergreen Jasmine. European Hornbeam trees are behind the tall wall to provide shade. The eye-catching canvas painting is 6 by 8 feet. The artist used acrylic paint along with other element. 21. The arbor and trellis were custom designed out of pressure treated pine—8′ tall at the edge and 9′ tall in the center. The beams overhang 18″. The lattice is on a 10″ grid. The cross bars are 10″ apart. The trellis has baltic ivy on the left and confederate jasmine on the right. The pergola has Kiwi fruit. Everything is pressure treated wood except for the table, which is western cedar. The paving is loose Alabama brown pea gravel, set on top of a 6″ layer of compacted ABC. 23. The fire pit is built with a cmu base, then clad with a natural stone. The gas burner is custom made and is finished off with black lava rock and a ceramic log-set. The precast concrete pavers surrounding the fire pit are made by Belgard—Urbana. The structure of the covered patio is Douglas Fir, while the ceiling is Tongue & Groove cedar.
