Surrounded by rolling acres, this courtyard house provides an informal style living experience referencing early California architecture mixed with clean lines and modern amenities. Butler Armsden Architects were responsible for the design of this elegant, timeless home thatย embraces its site inย Portola Valley,ย California. This contemporary courtyard house was designed to maximize the surrounding views by punctuating the walls withย factory glass windows throughoutโenhancing the indoor-outdoor connection.
Materials of natural woods, stone and plaster were selected to add to the elegance of the home, helping to create a harmonious flow from one space to the next. The exterior facade features steel windows and doors giving a dramatic architectural appeal, with stucco on both the walls and chimneys and topped with a copper roof.

An elegant living room showcases soaring ceilings illuminated by skylights punctuated into the ceiling and steel windows. A floor-to-ceiling stone clad fireplace is the focal point to the space, with comfortable and inviting furnishings symmetrically positioned around it, offering a wonderful space to enjoy relaxing conversation. Wooden flooring gives a natural, organic appeal to the space, while a textural area rug helps to not only delineate the space but add comfort underfoot.
