An historic residence constructed in the 1920’s has been completely renovated for a family by Jessica Helgerson Interior Design, located in Portland, Oregon. The home lacked character, so the designer took the interiors down to the studs, with the goal of making everything look original. The interiors were significantly expanded, with the addition of a fourth bedroom on the second floor. The basement and the attic were transformed into livable space
The kitchen was relocated to the back of the house, where an expansive steel-sash window was added to flood this beautiful room with natural light. The window also helps to maximize views of the lush backyard garden. Custom designed pickets were crafted for the staircase, which was reconfigured to access the attic and basement. The interiors are characterized by a soft and muted color palette, while the new details respects the history of the house. The furnishings reflect a youthful and modern aesthetic.
What We Love: The stunning historic residence features exquisite details throughout, including the wood herringbone flooring through the main living spaces. The newly transformed living spaces are now bright and airy, with modern updates that are warm and inviting… Readers, what do you think of this renovation project, could you envision yourself living here?

The fireplace was designed to look like it has always been there, but like everything else in this home, it has been newly constructed. The gray facade of the residence is integral color stucco, which means the pigment is integrated into the stucco, eliminating the need for paint.
