An inviting Midwest home puts a modern twist on urban farmhouse living

urban-cottage-retreat-exterior

This urban farmhouse cottage was designed for family living by Swan Architecture, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Called the “Red Door Retreat”, the exterior facade of this home has a black and white palette with an inviting red door.

On the outside, crisp yet graceful modern farmhouse touches, while the interiors offer more moody, classic attention to details. Special care was placed upon personal touches, such as the stone engraved cartouche above the range, making this urban cottage a special nucleus for this busy and active family.

Front porch living

You and your negative posts are rude and harsh! Homes can be eclectic and out of the box, but truly, this house is commonplace and beautiful in today’s perpective of architecture and design. I would be happy in this home. I’m sure the family that lives in this house calls it their happy place.

Did a big, fat decorating book throw up inside this house? Worst interior design work I’ve seen in a while. And the architecture isn’t much better. Totally schizophrenic, this whole house.

Schizophrenic?? That word is more out of place than your comment. Just because you don’t care for something, doesn’t mean you need to throw out insensitive words and rude comments.

This house has a major identity crisis. It’s all over the place. The front doors are a total mismatch to the style of the entry way. There are really neat elements but overall a little to overkill for my simple taste.

Amazing bones! Beams, groin ceiling, herringbone floors, arches, steel windows and marble. All the elements of a French style farmhouse.
Yet some designer went wild and threw everything over the top at this beautiful home and destroyed its passive beauty.
Sad!
