Texan home features exquisite French Normandy style interior

French Normandy Chateau-Bankston May Associates-01-1 Kindesign

This French Normandy style home was designed by Robert Dame Designs along with Bankston May Associates, located in Piney Point Village, Harris County, Texas. The interiors scheme reflects a balanced mix of french contemporary furnishings intermingled with antiques. The living room itself consists of 546 square feet, measuring 26 by 21 feet. The homeowner requested this space be modern with clean lines and minimalist aesthetic. The designer added some organic elements to soften the lines.

There is no television in this space, it was designed primarily for entertaining, enjoying conversation amongst family and friends. The space also focuses on art appreciation and soaking in the lush surroundings of the front and back yards. Stand out features in this light-flooded space includes two velvet blue sofas, statement light fixtures (Jonathan Browning Studios) and original art. The area rug from Stark grounds the space.

To design a space, the designer begins with a key element and builds the design around it. For the living room, the blue velvet sofas were the key piece. The sofas and cocktail tables were sourced from Roche Bobois. Since the sofas were larger in scale, smaller scale accent tables and chairs were selected to compliment. These smaller pieces can easily be moved around to accommodate varying seating arrangements when entertaining. Three individual cocktail tables at varying heights helps to add dimension to the space.

Due to the size of the room, the designer had originally planned to have two separated seating configurations centered underneath each of the chandeliers. When configured this way, the room did not appear harmonious, so the design team instead opted to flank the fireplace with both of the sofas. The layout is symmetrical yet highly functional since each piece is easily movable. This creates a more intimate conversational space, which can be re-configured for large parties.

What We Love: This French Normandy style home is very inviting, open and airy. The wood flooring adds warmth to the space, while the furniture arrangements allows for ease of entertaining—whether for small or larger gatherings. Not placing a television in the main living area helps to facilitate great conversation instead of focusing on distractions… plus the artwork above the fireplace mantel looks so much more attractive!

Readers, do you have a television in your living area or do you have a dedicated media room for the television… or do you prefer to not have a television in your home?
