Designed for a family of five by Stuart Sampley Architect, in collaboration with JGB Custom Homes, this midcentury modern home is located in Austin, Texas. This stunning brand-new home connects the past with the present, offering simple volumes and a material palette of burnished concrete, glass, and stucco.
This mix of materials helps to anchor the design to its surroundings. From the street view, this single-story home features a flat roof and clerestory windows, taking its cue from other mid-century modern properties in the neighborhood.

On the interior, you will find that form and function collide, offering uncomplicated living, dining, and kitchen areas, flooded by natural light courtesy of the clerestory windows. Although there is no fireplace, the white oak unit that can be seen above plays double duty as a closet and room divider. It anchors the center of the home and provides great circulation, connecting the rooms of the home.

Highlights: This outstanding home earned a 5-Star Austin Energy Green Building rating and was also featured on the 2014 AIA Homes Tour in Austin, Texas.
What We Love: This midcentury modern home is a beautiful melding of past and present offering a material palette that focuses on sustainability and longevity. Thanks to clerestory widows that run the entire length of the home, the need for artificial lighting is minimized during the day. The homeowners keep the door to their porch open during the summer, allowing passive cooling to the main living spaces. These wonderful energy-saving strategies make this home very ideal for a busy family of five!… Readers, what are your thoughts on the design of this home?
