This modern farmhouse style residence designed by Eric Olsen Design is located in Dover Shores, a beautiful waterfront community in Newport Beach, California. The dream home of interior designer Raili Clasen of RailiCA Design and her husband and young son, they worked with the architect on the 1960’s home to restructure it to a family friendly living environment. Taking six months to renovate, the foundation was left in tact, but the rest of the home was taken down to the studs. The roof was replaced to be vaulted, changing the ceiling height from 8 feet to 15 feet high in some areas. This really opened the space up and made it feel bright and airy. To add rustic warmth to the interior, an exposed beam trellis was added to the central core living space. A skylight was also added above the kitchen to illuminate the space. An additional unique design feature was a brick wall installation that runs from the front door all the way to the back patio. The interiors are a mix of elements inspired from California wine country with a sleep away camp vibe and even sprinkles of Scandinavian aesthetic. Most of the walls are a crisp white, aside from the kitchen that is punctuated with walls clad in pine flat board siding painted in a dark gray hue. The spiritual center of the home is the open concept kitchen, dining and living areas, featuring white oak flooring in a diagonal pattern and antique Germain light fixtures hanging over the kitchen island.
Oversized Moooi light fixtures hang over the dining table, creating a dramatic look in the space, drawing your eye upwards. The floor to ceiling wall niche housing stacked firewood adds to the natural and warm aesthetic of the space. Cozy furnishings and plush pillows decorate this inviting living room space pictured above.
