A modern two story concrete and glass waterfront residence was completed in 2013 by Max Strang Architecture, located on Biscayne Bay, Miami, Florida. Comprised of a sumptuous 6,000 square feet of living space, the dwelling was constructed for a mere $2.5 million, commanding unparalleled views of the Miami skyline as well as the Port of Miami. The architects used materials of Brazilian ipe wood on areas such as the decking that faces the water as well as aluminum sun louvers in order stand up to the harsh summers.
Upon entryway into this voluminous private residence, you can see all the way through to the other side, where expansive walls of glass give way to views of the bay. The interiors are illuminated with natural light through floor-to-ceiling glass, while any windows that are south facing feature sun-shading techniques. These include structural cantilevers from the upper level balconies off of the bedrooms as well as louvered walls, helping to shade the home when necessary.
The dwelling has been elevated above grade in order to protect it from subtropical storms and from longer term sea level changes. An elevated internal courtyard offers the look and convenience of providing the homeowners with an outdoor garden lifestyle.
Expansive walls of glass slides open to reveal a covered terrace with comfortable sun loungers and a generous-sized lap pool, offering a picture-perfect outdoor oasis on the bay. There is also a boat dock to further enjoy the Miami lifestyle.
On the back side of this concrete and glass dwelling, large expanses of floor-to-ceiling glass offer captivating views out to Bicayne Bay. Glass panels slide open to extend the living spaces to a partially covered terrace that steps down to a patio wrapped around a large swimming pool. With the back of the property almost fully transparent, this helps to blur the boundaries between indoors and out and illuminates the interior with beautiful natural light, creating a wonderful living environment for the home’s inhabitants.
