We just received information about M-22 House, a modern residence designed by Michael Fitzhugh Architect, nestled along the top of a tall ridge overlooking West Grand Traverse Bay in Northern Michigan. As one makes their way up the property, they feel a sense of discovery from the powerful views that are revealed once at the top. The material selection and the design of the spaces were inspired by the elements of earth, water, fire and wind. Each room provides a sense of connection to the site by both luminosity and use of materials. The exterior facade is a combination of concrete, steel and composite siding, while expansive glass windows compliments the clean form presented by the structure.
This sensational dwelling was designed with its own hydroelectric power generation, amongst numerous other fabulous sustainable features. Here are some other green features this unique property offers as stated by the architect: “an innovative geothermal heating and cooling system along with its own hydroelectric power generator which uses rainwater, geothermal water and gravity to generate power for the house.”

What We Love: The clean lines of the architecture both indoors and out, the double volume in the living room is spectacular, especially with the dramatic periscope fireplace that extends all the way from the ceiling. Magnificent! …. and of course there is nothing not to love about a home that puts sustainability at the forefront of their design scheme. What do you think of this sustainably designed home?
