This modern family hideaway was designed for easy living by architects Bosworth Hoedemaker, along with Amy Baker Interior Design, located on Lake Chelan, Washington. The design of this retreat was inspired by the essence of “camp life and a family’s love for spending time outdoors. The young family of five spent eight years roughing it on their property in a 32-foot Airstream trailer, while they saved money to build their dream vacation home.
Essential to the design was its integration with the site, consideration for the history and culture of the region, use of natural light and views, indoor/outdoor connection and accommodation of many guests. Aesthetically, the designers developed a materials palette inspired by the region. Rustic reclaimed wood elements, painted rough-sawn horizontal paneling, and end-grain wood floors juxtapose modern board-formed concrete walls, clean-lined casework and detailing throughout.

The furnishings were selected as an extension of the architecture and the family’s youthful easy style. Boutique furniture makers created signature pieces like the dining table and coordinating bench, as well as the kitchen bar stools. Large national retailers were sourced for items like dining chairs and deck furniture. Even the seemingly custom master bedroom furniture was purchased from Crate and Barrel then paired with specialty linens and art for a more unique statement.
Accolades: This fabulous 3,450 square foot home won a “IIDA Best In Home Award”.
What We Love: This modern family hideaway features a camp-like atmosphere with all the comforts of home. Indoor spaces seamlessly connect to the outdoors to encourage the family to spend time on the outdoor deck that overlooks the lake.
