A nautically-inspired Nantucket beach cottage getaway

Contemporary Beach House Design-01-1 Kindesign

This contemporary beach cottage was designed by BPC Architecture in collaboration with Hanley Development, located in Nantucket, Massachusetts. The house features a wonderful flow throughout, with the main level featuring a living room, dining room, kitchen and pantry, media room, mudroom, laundry room and powder bathroom. There are also two en-suite bedrooms, one of which is a downstairs master featuring french doors that leads out to the backyard and swimming pool.

What We Love: This summer beach cottage offers a beautiful floorplan layout that encourages comfort and relaxation. Nautical elements are abound through the use of shiplap, rattan, light woods and beachy hues. Above: The fabulous chefs kitchen features high-end appliances and a spacious 9′ x 5′ island. The gray bar stools were sourced from Osidea Furniture. The flooring is rift and quarter sawn White Oak with a custom Rubio Monocoat finish.

Above: The photograph above the vu thru, dual-sided, vent free gas fireplace is from award winning surf photographer, Brian Bielmann. The sofas grouped around the fireplace are from Restoration Hardware, while the coffee table is from Noir Furniture.

Above: The living room fireplace is clad with the flooring material (white oak) and milled down to be shiplap with a 5″ face. The boards were installed and mitered on the outside corners. The flooring material was also used to replicate the crown around the top and the base around the bottom.

Above: Off the kitchen is a warm and welcoming sitting area with double sliding doors that conveniently leads out to the backyard.

Above: On the second level, a master bedroom features an accent wall clad in shiplap behind a king-sized bed. The side walls have built-in bookcases, ideal for those that love to read!

Above: In the master bathroom, hexagon marble floor tiles adds an elegant touch, while a fun 1cm x 1cm marble mosaic covers the vanity backsplash.

Above: An upstairs children’s bedroom features nautical-inspired accents — from the ship print sheets to the sailing flags framed above each bed. The blue colored quilts were sourced from Pine Cone Hill.

Above: An upstairs loft features built-in full beds, providing a fun hangout spot for both kids and teenagers. The carpeting was sourced from Masland Carpets in the pattern Rivulet, Color: Morning Fog – 823. The wall color is Benjamin Moore — Horizon OC-53. The playful bedding is from Pottery Barn Teen. Lastly, the bean bag chairs are from Serena & Lily—Newport Lounger.

Above: A guest bedroom with en-suite bathroom features a clean, simple color palette. The wall color is Benjamin Moore’s Alaskan Husky 1479. The ceiling features a unique wrapped beam detail.
