The Bristol Woods Retreat is a stunning custom home designed by Fiorentino Group Architects, nestled in a private enclave on over 18 acres in York, Maine. With the ultimate in privacy, this super-sleek three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom residence offers 3,614 square feet of living space and sweeping woodland views.
After years of living on an active and noisy waterway, the owners wanted their new home to be a quiet, relaxing retreat from their thriving retail business. Continue below to see the rest of this spectacular woodsy haven…

The home is nestled within a secluded wooded lot, taking advantage of the existing site features and natural topography, making the home and site feel as one. An open-concept floor plan with sloped ceilings and abundant natural light, featuring walls of glass, provides the spatial quality they desired. Exposed structural and building materials, industrial in feel, define the character and provide the ornamentation of the interior spaces, as well as a backdrop for their art collection.

A Sustainable Home Built for Peaceful Living

They wanted a home that would minimize fossil fuel use by incorporating a highly insulated building envelope and integrating geothermal and solar building components, while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing design. Sustainable attributes include geothermal radiant heating and cooling systems, an on-demand water heater, and 24 photovoltaic solar panels, all seamlessly integrated into the architecture.

What We Love About This Home
The contrast between the raw industrial interior, reclaimed NYC brick, exposed ductwork, weathered timber, and the woodland setting outside is what makes this retreat so amazing. We are loving the dual-sided fireplace in the great room, which serves as an attractive visual separation while uniting the living spaces. The commitment to sustainability here never feels like a compromise; the geothermal systems, solar panels, and insulated envelope are fully integrated into a home that feels as beautiful as it does considered.

Additional Spaces

There are two guest rooms that share a bath on the second level. The laundry room and guest bathroom carry the same considered materiality found throughout, white shaker cabinetry, stone countertops, and textured walls that keep the home feeling unified.

Outdoor Living

The tiered lot has been professionally landscaped with stone walkways, rolling gardens, crushed-stone pathways, and multiple patios, each oriented to draw occupants deeper into the surrounding woodland.
