This beautiful transitional style house built in 2003 was reimagined for a family of four by Brianna Michelle Design, located in Lincoln, Nebraska. The designer’s goal was to create living spaces that were inviting, comfortable, and bright. She wanted to let in an abundance of natural light and capture the views of the backyard. The solution required some demolition of the second story.
The designer transformed what was once a low-height great room into soaring 18-foot ceilings. Originally above this space was a secondary bedroom and bathroom. Reconfiguring the second level, the designer was able to eliminate these spaces and create a double-volume great room. This also enabled the installation of two-story windows, flooding the space with natural light.
Prior to its transformation, this home exuded a highly traditional ambiance, adorned with copious oak, wainscot, and enclosed, well-defined spaces. However, during the renovation process, the designer skillfully infused the residence with a more transitional style, incorporating a timeless aesthetic that beautifully combines classic elements.
In all, there are 8,600 square feet of living space in this elegant yet family-friendly abode, with six bedrooms, a stunning entryway, a double-story great room, a playroom, and a home gym.
What We Love: The designer did a fabulous job of maximizing the natural light in this home through an extensive renovation process. Throughout the refreshed interiors you will find that every detail caters to a family-friendly atmosphere with ample space for storage and furnishings and finishes that holds up to wear and tear. We are especially loving the luminous great room with its soaring ceilings and stylish details.

Above: On the lower level, the designer transformed this space to be more of a third floor than a basement. This space includes a wet bar and comfortable seating areas for entertaining. There is also a guest bedroom suite, a half bathroom, an exercise room, a laundry area, and an abundance of windows and doors that provides access to the backyard.
