Mountain sanctuary offers a sense of tranquility in the Idaho wilderness

This breathtaking 2,300 square foot mountain sanctuary was designed by Montana-based Miller-Roodell Architects, located in Idaho. The owner of this ranch house is an empty nester with grown children who has a love of tranquility and was attracted to this property for its openness, privacy, wildlife, and wilderness.

The predominant factor for the owner retaining this property was its strong sense of quiet, peace, and serenity. The owner had extensive experience in homebuilding and knew she wanted a rustic style, but a version of that style that would be an accurate reflection of who she is, of her interests and influences.

The overriding mood, she insisted, should be serenity. To that end, it was crucial that the house be simple, quiet in tone, and not overly ornamented or heavily furnished. Reclaimed and indigenous materials were the hallmark of this diminutive home.

What We Love: This exquisite mountain sanctuary features a rustic palette both indoors and out for a sense of inviting warmth. Large windows bring the natural surroundings inside, creating a feeling of tranquility for the owner of this beautiful home. Overall, the architects were successful in creating a retreat that is not only aesthetically pleasing but soothing to the soul โ€” between the design and the serene environment.

The setting is gorgeous. I hope no one ever builds within her sight. Great design inside.
