This rustic lake house retreat was designed by Arcanum Architecture in collaboration with Jennifer Robin Interiors, located in Lake Tahoe, California. The project entails a remodel for a historic home on Lake Tahoe’s west shore. This two-story home is nestled in a development that restricts modifications to the exterior facade.
The homeowner’s embarked on a two-year journey to tear down the existing home and rebuild it to its former glory. The appearance of the exterior may look like it did back in the 1960s, however, the design offers additional ceiling height (the original was under the typical 8-feet) and an updated floor plan layout.

The homeowner’s are a family of five, that use this home as a summer retreat. The project team worked together to banish the dark and outdated home, opting for spaces that are cozy and cool and reflect the vernacular of the setting. Accommodating large groups was a top priority, so the designer’s created a spacious great room with ample seating. There is also a bunk room that is outfitted with four beds for hosting overnight guests.

The sofa is a custom creation by the designer, fabricated by Kroll Furniture. It features a nailhead-trimmed body upholstered in Moore & Giles leather. Plush cushions are covered in a soft velvet from Mark Alexander.
What We Love: This rustic lake house retreat uses a beautiful color palette throughout that evokes the great outdoors. The design team did a fabulous job of making the homeowner’s and their guests feel that they are fully immersed this lakeside environment. The new layout is bright and airy with beautiful furnishings and fixtures that creates a warm and comfortable living oasis… Readers, what do you think.
