This light-filled, historic farmhouse was renovated by Ken Linsteadt Architects in collaboration with M. Elle Design, located in Brentwood, California. The homeowners were originally from Connecticut, relocating their family to the West Coast, they fell in love with this charming farmhouse. This project combines the best of both coasts—”an historic farmhouse with New England charm and the airy interior of a West Coast retreat,” explains the architect.
The exterior of this Colonial style home was altered only minimally. Meanwhile, the interiors of the 5,000 square foot floor plan were entirely re-arranged to promote flow and showcase a collection of museum quality, contemporary artwork. Just like the layout, the materials palette was pared down: recycled wood, limestone, and soft fabrics are used throughout the interior. The design team created interior spaces that were livable yet inspired, allowing the art collection to take the lead in design decisions.
The interior color palette is dictated by the art work used in the space, adding subtle hues to create an overall warm color scheme. Each space is a mixture of heirlooms and antiques, infused with modern furnishings, something handmade, books, and the homeowners unique art collection.
What We Love: This sun-soaked, historic farmhouse offers an amazing art collection that has inspired the interiors scheme throughout the home. The comfortable living spaces are chic and sophisticated, filled with stylish furnishings and accessories… and we love the addition of books in all the right spaces. Living spaces that are brimming with inspiration, truly a place to call home… Readers, what are your overall thoughts on the design of this home? Please share in the comments below!
