La Jolla Canyon Residence is a contemporary property featuring sculptural art forms, designed by Matrix Design, nestled in a private canyon in La Jolla, California. This fascinating residence is surrounded by lush landscaping, seamlessly blending interior spaces into outdoor spaces and pool terraces, taking advantage of the cool breezes. The homeowners have a unique outdoor sculpture collection that traverses through the numerous paths on the property that can be spotted from the balconies and terraces. Nestled in the natural contours of the land are pools, patios, and planted areas. The interior living spaces are comprised of 10,200 square feet spread out over one level, showcasing a spacious kitchen, family room and dining area, art studio, master bedroom and en-suite bathroom. The main house is adjoined to a four bedroom, two story structure by a 50 foot long art gallery, which is the main entryway to the residence. The entrance to the home is accessed by a pathway which runs parallel to a dry creek, ending in a solid granite bridge that leads to a pivot glass entryway door, framing an art wall of the gallery.

Exterior steps leads to an expansive open air rooftop terrace offering ocean view seating, an outdoor barbecue space and a vegetable garden that is large enough to fulfill the household needs.

In the dining room, a custom 24 foot table has been crafted from a single slab of live edge Indonesian Suar, 6 inches thick and separated into the individual pieces that acts as one long table during large dinner parties, separating into game table on wheels, an outdoor table table under a large overhand and separates the interior and exterior tables with a pocketed sliding glass door to offer several dining experiences. .The outdoor kitchen provides a natural extension of the long dining buffet, expanding the entire length from the kitchen, along the length of the dining table and out to the patio area.

This master bathroom features a steam shower comprised of mica schist stone.

The bedroom wing features a vertical garden, allowing natural light to penetrate through. Along a glass wall, bamboo has been planted, open to all the bedrooms and bathroom to allow both light and views at all ends. The bathrooms are completely clad in a rainforest limestone, mimicking the bamboo grove. A very rare bleached koa is the veneer on all the built-ins seen throughout the interiors of the home.

The exterior property showcases sculptural outdoor pool terraces, including a seventy foot lap pool that begins flush with the upper terrace yet emerges to form a ten foot high cube of dark reflecting water at its outermost length. “The vanishing edges waterfall into a spa at the middle mezzanine, and then into a lower level children’s pool that is surrounded by trees, art and landscape.” The outdoor living spaces were designed to be sculptural art forms to cater to the homeowners love affair with art.
