Gerber Berend Design Build, together with Windsor Jones Design, crafted this breathtaking modern mountain home nestled along the banks of Soda Creek in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The homeowners are a couple from Kansas City who were looking for a new home to meet their lifestyle needs. He is an avid skier, while she was looking for a place of solitude, where she could relax with a good book and enjoy the tranquility of the creek.
The result is a 3,505 square foot home, with four bedrooms and five bathrooms that creates a unique aesthetic—a mix of historic and futuristic. Part of the house mimics that of a New England saltbox, while the other half has a more modern appearance of steel and glass with a dramatic roof trajectory. The warm and inviting interiors offer soaring ceilings with clean lines and an urban aesthetic. The materials used to construct this home are steel, wood and concrete.
“Shou Sugi Ban rain screen siding, stained larch ceilings, and stained poplar trim provide a warm counterpoint to the home’s crisp, modern framework,” states the architects.

The architects advice to the homeowners was to spend money on the things they will be touching all the time—notice the heft of the door handle to the left of this image.
