Patrick Ahearn Architect and Robin Gannon Interiors are responsible for renovating this coastal-style waterfront home in Osterville, a seaside village on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The owners loved the romance of their shingle-style home overlooking Nantucket Sound but its 1990s layout on the interior was less than ideal. it had an outdated layout that included a formal central stairway and many compartmentalized rooms with no flow. Respecting the romantic tradition of the exterior, a complete overhaul of the interior was undertaken.
Positive elements such as a covered porch expanding the entire back of the house were preserved, while interior spaces were reimagined for today’s modern family. Subtle updates were made to the exterior, including the addition of shutters, new carriage house doors, and copper lanterns, all enhancing the home’s timeless character. A new crushed stone motor court, bordered by cobblestones, creates a more stately arrival. The addition of landscaping and fencing helps delineate the property and add to the approach. This completely revitalized home will welcome generations to come. Continue below to see more of this stunning waterfront home…

An attractive custom white oak Dutch door leads into the main open foyer amplifying the unique coastal charm of this beautiful home.
The relocation and redesign of the staircase into a half-pace style was the final piece of the puzzle when creating the overall desired functionality of the home. The entire home underwent a gut renovation and was refinished with beadboard ceilings and vertical shiplap walls throughout.
A new circulation pattern was established with a central spine running from the grand front foyer to the back porch, inviting guests through the space with water views beyond the rear French doors. On the main level, the kitchen, dining, and family rooms were reworked into an open layout floor plan. Accordion doors completely open these spaces to the porch, creating a strong indoor-outdoor connection.

The natural colors from the outside were brought inside and incorporated into the interior design. The living room was enriched with traditional beadboard from floor to ceiling and finished with natural white oak ceiling beams.
