This Orcas Island beach cabin gets an incredibly cozy makeover

Beach Cabin Renovation-Rocky Rochon Design-03-1 Kindesign

Stephen Sullivan Designs along with Rocky Rochon Design has reimagined a 1920s beach cabin nestled on beautiful Orcas Island, the largest of the San Juan Islands in northwestern Washington. The project includes a complete demolition of the interiors of the home, preserving the stone fireplace in the living room and the blue-tiled bathroom. The cabin consists of 1,200 square feet of living space; decorated with an eclectic, cozy aesthetic that includes vintage finds, rustic finishes, and an artistic, innovative flair.

The scope of this project included creating enlarged, open public areas to maximize water views towards the ocean. Two separate bedroom suites were created to add comfort and luxury. Additionally, access was created to a private area with a new hot tub. All of the electrical and plumbing was also updated throughout.

Design Solution: Demolish existing interior walls and enlarge the living room/dining area into an adjacent seating area with French doors to expand the view and create access to a private new hot tub. Design full-height bookcases and re-panel all walls in recycled weathered wood.

Design new coffered ceilings with tongue and groove wood panels and add new wood paneling to match the scale of the recycled paneling and paint. Recycle kitchen cabinets and juxtapose them with new cabinet designs in a vintage/traditional manner. Furniture, art, and accessories are a mix of new, vintage, and antique, to create the effect of a timeless, collected, artistic, cozy cabin.

What We Love: This beach cabin on Orcas Island features a warm and cozy aesthetic thanks to a brilliant interior renovation. Spaces flow effortlessly from one to another, while views are maximized. Expansive windows help to keep the floor plan feeling light and airy. Loving the stone fireplace in the living room, the weathered wood on the walls, and coffered ceilings.
