This visually striking hillside house was crafted by Ryan Street & Associates in partnership with Shoberg Homes, situated in Westlake Hills, a suburb of Austin, Texas. This hillside property in an Austin suburb was virtually unbuildable, inspiring an exercise in constraint.
The architects offset the dramatic vertical drop-off with an emphasis on horizontal lines — a cantilevered feature, a bridged entry, and reaching planks of blonde wood. Encompassing 4,783 square feet of living space, there are five bedrooms and five bathrooms with two half bathrooms.

A restrained palette of steel and stucco, black and white, wood and window is softened by continual reconnection with the outside — taking the hardest planes in the house and eliminating them, breaking corners with glass and allowing light to play across quiet walls. The homeowners’ personal art and sculpture collection add texture to high contrast, and the space breathes as both home and art.
What We Love: This hillside house in Texas offers a dream home for its inhabitants, one of luxury and sophistication. Amazing views of the Texas Hill Country can be seen through floor-to-ceiling steel windows in this sleek modern masterpiece. Just like the view it embraces, the interior is all about expansive living spaces. Seeming to spill off the hillside, an infinity-edge pool creates a dramatic punctuation to the outdoor spaces.
