This gorgeous lakeside house was designed by Locati Architects to embody a sense of timelessness, boasting views over Echo Lake, a picturesque lake in Montana’s Flathead Valley. On the exterior facade, the masonry was created using a historical method that was designed to give this residence an “ageless” appearance. The flower boxes help to add an old-world, European aesthetic.
This timeless two-story residence offers rustic elegance throughout its spacious floor plan layout of 4,500 square feet. The exterior of the dwelling is constructed like an old stone building, featuring a four-square hip roof. The homeowners wanted their design to complement their lake environment. A timeless aesthetic that could have been built a year ago or 100 years ago. They tried to avoid style trends, leaning more towards a traditional aesthetic.

The layout of this home demanded flexibility, providing comfort for the homeowners while offering plenty of space for guests, especially their grandchildren. Drawing inspiration from its surroundings — Rocky Mountain architecture, European structures (reflecting the owners’ years of living abroad in Europe), and the distinct Parkitecture of nearby Glacier National Park — the design culminated in a “European chalet-style home with a big Mountain West feel,” as described by the architect.
The open layout of this dwelling helps to facilitate a harmonious flow between the kitchen and dining area, which is optimal for when the homeowners are entertaining family and friends.
