AHG Interiors undertook the renovation of this stylish 1960s A-frame cabin, nestled atop a hill in the Catskills region of southeastern New York State. Enveloped by lush forests and commanding mountain vistas, the design seamlessly marries contemporary aesthetics, furnishings, and materials with the cabin’s original architecture, creating an atmosphere that complements its natural surroundings. Abundant natural light and an overall sense of openness pervade the space.
The homeowner collaborated with a contractor to execute an extensive transformation, including roof replacement, electrical rewiring, plumbing updates, and the installation of new insulation. Each thoughtful improvement to this dwelling adds a touch of warmth and an enchanting ambiance, harmonizing beautifully with the forested backdrop. The culmination of these efforts has magically resurrected a once-dilapidated cabin into a modern, luminous, and inviting haven for both family and friends. Continue below to see the images of the cabin prior to the remodel!

What We Love: This A-frame cabin in the Catskills provides bright and airy interiors thanks to light walls, windows, skylights, and wood floors stripped and stained to a light tone. Lower-level porches help to extend the outdoor spaces to enjoy this home’s tranquil surroundings. Screens in the living room are seamless to the front porch, blurring indoor-outdoor boundaries while allowing fresh breezes during the summer months.

A clever peekaboo aesthetic enlivens many of the cabin’s new design elements―invisible touches of lucite, accented brass surfaces, oversized mirrors, and windows and glass partitions in the spa bathrooms, which provide all the comfort of a luxury hotel, and the feeling that you are bathing in nature.

Downstairs you will find plenty of seating for guests along with a wet bar―a nod to your parents’ 70s basement―the perfect space for entertaining.
Step outside onto an expansive deck and fire up the grill while enjoying the spectacular forested surroundings with mountain views.

Stonework, scattered around the sprawling 5-acre property, leads you to several lounging nooks, where you can stretch out with a good book or take a soak in the hot tub.
