Nestled among majestic oak trees, this stunning French provincial home, situated on a sprawling 10-acre estate in the suburbs of St. Paul, Minnesota, has been thoughtfully renovated by Kristin Hoaglund Design. This rehab project is the designer’s personal empty-nester dream house.
Originally constructed in 1974, the residence underwent significant expansions over the years, including the addition of a spacious great room in 1990 and a main floor owner’s suite in 2001. The scope of this project entailed a complete overhaul of the entire 4,300-square-foot brick home.
Acting as the contractor, the designer completed the interior remodel in just six months. The exterior also received a facelift, with the 1970s mottled brown brick transformed into a timeless and elegant white façade, evoking a sense of classic French charm. Inside, walls were torn down and doorways were enhanced to produce an open floor plan that effortlessly caters to everyday living and entertaining.
The crisp white walls and trim completely refreshes the living spaces for a bright and airy feel. It was rewarding for the designer to witness something old be transformed into something new, more stunning, and more functional.
What We Love: This French provincial home in Minnesota was thoughtfully renovated to reflect beautiful living spaces both indoors and out. The designer worked to fully gut the entire home, creating a bright and refreshing open layout that connects the main living spaces to breathe new life into this dated yet charming home. Overall, we are loving every detail, from the custom light fixtures, furnishings, and accessories to the airy backyard patio that is perfect for entertaining.

Above: The exterior paint was an organic lime paint by Romabio that was tinted to match Benjamin Moore Oxford White. It is a pretty clean white that might be too bright for some exterior applications. The designer selected this hue for the home because it is in a wooded setting.
Above: The walls, ceilings, and all trim throughout the home are the same white, Benjamin Moore Oxford White. It is a crisp, clean white. The trim is satin enamel and the walls are a matte finish.

Above: The paint color for the interior doors started out as BM Black Panther, but due to the oil enamel finish used, the color ended up much more blue-gray than the original swatch. So when the color had to be matched for some other finishes, it ended up being a custom color. The final color is closer to BM Black Horizon.
