Patrick Ahearn Architect has designed this charming Greek Revival home that is located in the Edgartown Village Historic District on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. This newly constructed home is a story of respecting the existing streetscape, the architectural process, and zoning regulations while achieving the homeowner’s desired program on a substandard property of less than 5,000 square feet.
Prior to constructed, there were two small sheds that resided on the site. The case was made before historic and zoning boards for a new house, guest house, and a swimming pool uniquely planned to preserve one of the existing sheds and comply with all regulations.
Today, a jewel box three bedroom home graces the property with French Doors leading to the bluestone patio, pool, and charming one bedroom guest house. The utmost in architectural trim and detail abounds in a more contemporary idiom throughout both structures, even in the substantial lower levels.
Designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings, this home filled in the neighborhood’s “missing tooth” and from the exterior appears to be of the same vintage as adjacent antique properties. The door and shutters of this home are painted in Baltic Blue HDC-FL13-6 | Behr Paint.
Details that all but backdate the residence, including a proper Edgartown fence, a brick veneered foundation, thematically appropriate exterior light fixtures and shutters with propeller tie-backs complete the historically-inspired composition.
