Allard + Roberts Interior Design is responsible for reimagining the interiors of this spectacular mountain modern refuge located in North Carolina. The original residence was a custom-designed spec home built by a local builder/developer. When the owners purchased this property, they were eager to put their own stamp on this fabulous home.
It was full of rich details such as the exposed timber frame in the living room, walnut and oak features throughout, and magnificent views of the valley below. However, some of the finishes did not suit the homeowner’s taste. These features were adjusted, along with new furnishings and decor selections throughout. Continue below for the rest of the tour along with the BEFORE pictures!
The designer introduced the homeowners to one of their preferred contractors, who collaborated throughout the updates and renovations. The first architectural feature they addressed was the kitchen backsplash, which was once a busy mosaic of glass tiles.
Instead, they opted for slabs of silver travertine for a more subdued kitchen and replaced the countertops with honed quartz for ease of maintenance and a bright, fresh compliment to the dark oak cabinetry.
Next, they replaced a number of lighting fixtures with more subtle and sophisticated options like the fixture in the dining room and stairway. Finally, they sourced furniture and decor from regional vendors and makers in North and South Carolina.
Many features, such as the living room coffee/cocktail table and the dining table were custom-made locally to design specifications.
Fabrics and finishes are robust, such as Cryptos-treated dining chairs, so that the homeowners can enjoy the house with their family and grandchildren and not have to worry about spills or stains.
Recliners were sourced for the living and family rooms for lounging and relaxation. All furnishings throughout this home were selected to be comfortable and functional yet at the same time beautiful.
To complete each space, the designer fabricated custom bedding and window treatments, and selected artwork from local galleries for the finishing touch.
The homeowners now entertain on a regular basis and often report on the compliments they receive from visitors. Their home is now transformed into a customized space where they can make meals and memories with loved ones.
