This charming historic farmhouse was expanded into a contemporary country retreat by Wade Weissmann Architecture along with Rachel Halvorson Designs, set on 25 rolling acres on the outskirts of Franklin, Tennessee. What was once a pre-Civil War era cabin has undergone a full-scale renovation along with an addition, rich in character from exterior to interior.
Timeless stonework and a cedar shake roof present a breathtaking exterior facade. Inside, a pre-Civil War era settler’s cabin salvaged from Hartsville, Tennessee was disassembled and reassembled by the previous owner. Rough-hewn planks are fastened together with ‘chinking” mortar that was used in cabins from this era.

The old cabin was integrated with the new addition of the home to flow with the same aesthetic. This can be seen in the sitting room, where the low ceiling is highlighted with thick wood beams. All of the windows throughout this home are single-pane glass. There is no drywall — interior walls either have shiplap or are finished with some type of wall texture.
