This modern beach home was designed by Workshop/APD and masterfully executed by Hanley Development, located in Sconset village on Nantucket island, Massachusetts. The home was originally conceived as a family vacation home for the principal architect and his extended family. The house is spread out over three levels, which includes a finished basement level. The total gross living area is 7,491 square feet—see below for complete floorpans.
There are a total of five bedrooms, with four-and-a-half bathrooms, offering exquisite luxury and details. The design scheme throughout the interiors reflects clean lines and hints of nautical elements. This includes a limited palette of cool blues and whites and accents of v-groove shiplap on the walls and ceilings. The stained white oak flooring compliments the interiors scheme and helps to keep the spaces feeling light and airy. On the exterior, cedar shingles is in keeping with the typical beach house aesthetic.
What We Love: This modern beach home features an exquisite open floorplan that is perfect for living and entertaining. What is unique about this home is that all of the main living spaces open to themselves and have views overlooking the pool area. The color palette is very soothing, reflecting the hues of the surrounding landscape. With a fantastic floor plan equally amazing furnishings and accessories, this an ideal summer getaway home… Readers, would you agree?

The architect applied a layering of textures, pattern and color to give this home its modern interpretation of a beach house. The living room is the family gathering spot of the home, so the idea was to make this space more dramatic and sophisticated then the rest of the interiors. To give it it’s stand out appeal, the design team vaulted the ceiling with exposed white oak beams and finished it with a custom plaster.
The fireplace is the main focal point of the space, complimented by beautiful furnishings such as the Martens Square Coffee Table from Restoration Hardware. Illuminating the space is the dCOR design Paradise 1-Light Inverted Pendant —$151.99, Source: Birch Lane. Above the fireplace is three identical art prints sourced from John Robshaw Home.
Above: In the kitchen, the backsplash tile is from Ann Sacks, while the industrial glass pendants illuminating the island were sourced from one of our personal favorites, West Elm. The island was designed to be expansive in order to accommodate large family gatherings in the kitchen. It is also open and spacious for easy entertaining.
Above: When designing resort style homes, the architect said they like to creating a dining space that can go from casual to formal. Since the dining area is close to the pool, it needed to be able to handle wet bathing attire yet be able to host a formal occasion. The Restoration Hardware table consists of salvaged wood and concrete, durable materials that are also visually appealing. Illuminating the table is the Bungalow Pendant from Anthropologie.
Above: At the entryway of the home is the staircase, featuring an organic art installation on the wall of barnacles. It is an eye-catching focal point that seems to compliment the architectural reveals in the wall.
Above: Illuminating the staircase is the Nelson Sepulveda White “Z1” Lantern.
Above: The sconce above the master bathroom vanity is the West Elm Globe Sconce (this light can even be used on your front porch, as it was designed to withstand the elements).
Above: The Crate and Barrel Tate Upholstered California King Bed is perfect for this master bedroom suite. The light fixture above the bed is the Roll and Hill Modo Chandelier. $3,900.00 – $5,655.00 from Design Within Reach. The decorative pillows are the Serena & Lily Camille Mosaic Lumbar Pillow Cover in the color Indigo.
Above: The exquisite snow flakes wallpaper in this bedroom features a custom color to fit the space, from local designer and artist Audrey Sterk.
Above: The kids bedroom is connected to the master bedroom, featuring the Oeuf Perch Twin Bunk Bed—$1,590.00. The Serena & Lily Geo Quilt bedding is the perfect year-round layer, adding some textural flair to the space.
