We’re dreaming of this peaceful lakeside family retreat in Tennessee

traditional-home-exterior

Carlton Edwards has renovated this lakeside family retreat perched on a steep topography, maximizing views over a tranquil cove at Pickwick Lake in Counce, Tennessee. Its timeless character takes cues from the architecture of grand summer lodge style homes of the 1930s — the same era the lake was developed.

The compound includes a main house and a boathouse each carefully sited to maximize views in all directions. The exterior is carefully crafted of cedar shingle siding and native stone. A color palette of grays and greens was derived from the water oaks, moss, and lichen found on the hillside.

What We Love: This lakeside family retreat offers its inhabitants a wonderful getaway to relish in the tranquility of magnificent water views. Spaces throughout this home were designed to maximize these views, including the terraced outdoor living spaces and a newly developed boat house. Overall the project team did a fabulous job of renewing this home’s interiors to create a timeless aesthetic to be enjoyed by family and friends for years to come.

Tell Us: What do you think, would this lake house be your idea of the ultimate family getaway? Let us know your thoughts in the Comments!

Above: The boy’s bunk room was designed to mimic an old sleeping porch. Selected for durability, wood plank tile flooring with a crackle glaze gives the feel on an old painted porch floor. Windows wrap the sides of this room, flooding the space with natural light while providing lake views. The interior wall is clad with cedar shingle siding from the exterior, lending an authentic feel of an enclosed sleeping porch. On the ceiling is a wall covering with stars, providing a magical nighttime sky ambiance.

A floating vanity features detailing on the drawers — random width and depth plank with an enlarged bead on the drawers. The countertop is honed white marble. Glass tile was selected for the shower to enhance the water and lake feel.

Sunset views can be enjoyed from the cooking porch and entertainment terraces, which are centered around an expansive swimming pool. Due to its vertical nature, retaining walls of Arkansas fieldstone were used in several of the outdoor spaces.
