Snow Architektur has designed this minimalist home located in Kitzbühel, a small Alpine village in the Kitzbühel Alps along the river KitzbühelerAche in Tyrol, Austria. Nestled in a rural area surrounded by greenery, the proximity to nature could not be more present. Encircled by the property’s tree population, this new structure is in a class of its own.
This dwelling elegantly blends into nature with its serene exterior wood facade of natural larch. In the planning process, the desire for an abundance of community space and family life, the connection to nature, and sustainability were key factors.
The strategic use of contrasting materials such as wood and concrete resulted in a functional minimalistic structure with a clean interior design that captivates with stylish down-to-earthiness. Walls of glazing illuminate the interior of the wooden dwelling with natural light and allow views from east to west, blending the transitions from indoors to out.
The heart of the home consists of exposed concrete walls. It acts as a puristic style element and a buffer between the different living spaces.
The natural heat storage capacity of the concrete is efficiently utilized through the built-in fireplace, which at the same time provides visual connections within the living spaces. In other places the concrete core functions as a staircase and provides integrated spots for working and relaxation.
The adjacent black steel gallery reflects the aspiration for an open floor plan, creating a link between the ground floor and the attic. Additional seating next to the windows provides the homeowners with a feeling of being outside while inside.
The air-to-water heat pump and a photovoltaic system on the roof ensure the autonomy of electricity and heat supply and thereby complete the sustainability concept.
What We Love: This minimalist home in Austria was designed to capture nature with generous windows that also bring in plenty of natural light. The central core of this home is the perfect hang-out spot with soaring ceilings, a mix of concrete and wood along with casual furnishings and cozy spots to sit next to the window with a good book.
