A luxury mountain retreat with views of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains

contemporary-mountain-home-exterior

This luxury mountain retreat was designed by Charles Cunniffe Architects, perched on a windswept rocky mountainside above Aspen, Colorado. The exquisite interiors reflect a unique blend of Art Deco with clean contemporary detailing along with 36 species of wood.

The challenge began when the Florida-based owners commissioned the architects to responsibly deconstruct much of the existing house, and design a home that fused art-deco and contemporary mountain-modern design.

A double glass pivot door creates a warm and welcoming entry into this home. Particularly useful on cold winter nights, and equally as gorgeous on a summer day. The coat closet is surrounded by dry-stacked stone and the wood ceiling grounds the space, while floor-to-ceiling glass leaves you surrounded by nature.

The project team was careful to subtly instill inspiration in parts of the home without overdoing it. As the home cascades down the mountainside, its essence permeates the site and creates a wonderful entertaining home.

There are three guest suites in this luxury mountain retreat — each distinctly different and honoring the owners’ wish for hotel-style suites for their many houseguests. By differing the room configurations, wall and ceiling angles, window designs, and material and lighting selections – each room has a magic of its own.
