This beautiful Bohemian-style bungalow was completely reimagined by Martha O’Hara Interiors in collaboration with MDS Remodeling, nestled on a woodsy 2.5-acre property in Prior Lake, Minnesota. The new owners, a couple with three teenage daughters and a young son, were transplants from California who desired more privacy and an idyllic location for a fresh restart.
Despite the perfect neighborhood, the existing house had dated interiors that included dark walls, heavy woods, and a thick black countertop in the kitchen along with carpeting in both the home office and living room. The overall style was way too masculine for the wife’s style tastes. Continue below to see the rest of the transformation along with the before images!
The project began with just a refresh on their main level with the vision of brightening the interiors. This included a fresh coat of paint on the walls, wood floors, and new furnishings. After contracting the designers, the project started small, but as the homeowners saw how beautifully transformed their living spaces had become, the remodel expanded into the entire downstairs level.
Even the exterior of this Bohemian style bungalow underwent an overhaul with a fresh coat of paint and new furnishings. This included the lounger swing, the perfect spot to hang out and watch the sunset! They even painted the door pink, which is a playful touch to this warm and welcoming home.
The goal for this remodel project was to create elegant and sophisticated living spaces yet durable enough to withstand a young child in the home. Fabrics and materials were selected for comfort, livability, and aesthetics.

For the designer, the main focus for the updated interiors was to select furnishings and accessories that would go with the Boho style yet maintain a feeling of sophistication.
Above: The original wood floors were in a dark stain, which was stripped and refinished to highlight their natural Australian gum wood. The original dark taupe walls were painted white for a bright and airy aesthetic.
Above: The original staircase in this home was outdated, so the designer had it completely updated to create an airy entryway.
Above: The home office is very feminine with its custom blush pink cabinetry and white quartz countertops. The romantic floral painting is by Christina B. Johnson. The office is located near the main entrance to the home, so it was important to have it look aesthetically pleasing to guests when they enter.

This space got a fresh coat of paint, new cabinetry, countertops, and a beautifully patterned marble tile backsplash.
