Tour an absolutely gorgeous French Provincial country house in Maryland

This French Provincial country house was designed by Purple Cherry Architects, located on the Tred Avon River, the main tributary of the Choptank River in Talbot County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Inspired by the French manor homes of Normandy, this house is understated and dignified; its granite exterior exudes enduring solidity.

While the footprint stretches nearly 128 feet along the shoreline to take advantage of the views, the scale of the house is restrained by steeply-hipped rooflines with flared eaves. The rounded dormers and distinct chimneys are consistent with the French transitional architectural style of the home and unify both the front and rear facades.

The waterside facade of this dwelling has an abundance of windows, allowing natural light and air into the house while capturing the surrounding natural landscape.

Meticulous artisanal stonework defines this residence as do other rich details. A covered walkway with a mahogany barreled ceiling link the house to the three-car garage with guest suite above; the club room’s custom walnut floor with parquet pattern; the hand-forged antiqued brass railing on the curved stair and balcony; and the timber trusses and stone fireplace of the great room all contribute to the overall character and presence of the house.

Kitchen cabinets in a bold blue serve up appealing contrast in the home’s extended kitchen while classic lighting fixtures add style and warmth to the space. High ceilings and expansive windows throughout create a light, spacious feeling while moldings and millwork organize and humanize each room.
