This 21st-century Arts and Crafts home was renovated by Tim Barber Architects in collaboration with Cameron Design Group, located in Austin, Texas. The family of six had searched for a new house to fit their growing lifestyle needs. After not finding anything that was quite right, they opted to stay where they had already planted roots.
The homeowner’s collaborated with their project team to reimagine their existing home into a bright haven that is brimming with comfort, creativity, function, and a touch of glam. Undergoing an extensive remodel, the team focused on rethinking the purpose of rooms and optimizing indoor-outdoor living while honoring the local vernacular.

Enhancements to the exterior facade of this dwelling include: replacing the existing stone veneer with white brick, and the faux-shake roof was switched to standing seam metal. A dormer window was added to the front roof to enhance the second-floor space and reduce the scale of the roof. A new steel porch structure (inspired by a local restaurant) was designed at the rear of the property. The pool and a private, spa-like outdoor shower at the primary bedroom were completely redesigned.
Inside, the project team reimagined awkward rooms to prioritize function and style, with intricate millwork throughout. Kitchen and laundry, home office, stairs, closets, and home theater (and bookcases!) were integrated into the old footprint. The primary bath was a particular challenge, where the new floating vanities with suspended mirrors and artful stone surround provide a serene retreat.
The interior designer artfully layered the living spaces with pastel hues, rich textures, metallic glints, and bold stone. The finished result of this project is a thoughtfully transformed family sanctuary that will nurture this growing family and fit into the context of the neighborhood.
What We Love: This Arts and Crafts home offers a growing family newly refreshed living spaces and a complete update to the exterior facade. The project team did a fabulous job of making this home feel timeless while reconfiguring the floor plan to be more functional and efficient. Overall, we are loving every detail of this dwelling, especially having a spa-like outdoor shower right off the main bedroom!
