This Scandinavian-inspired lake house was designed by McClellan Architects, nestled on Bellingham Bay, a bay of the Salish Sea located in Washington State. While the home is decidedly modern in form, the owner requested to layer in softer, more European influences for the interior finishes and detailing.
To achieve this look, the project team incorporated wide plank oak floors and herringbone graphite limestone, paired with marble to offset but compliment the walnut details and black accents throughout. Originally from Sweden, the homeowner had a lovely collection of antiques including Baccarat chandeliers (incorporated into the master bedroom and guest bath), a Swedish clock, and case pieces. Let’s take a tour…

For interior furnishings, the designer selected a combination of vintage, new, and custom. With a color palette of cream, warm cinnamon, and olive green, the designer sought to layer textures, and silhouettes with the furnishings to create a warm, modern and elegant home.
What We Love: This Scandinavian inspired lake house is warm and elegant, filled with beautiful furnishings and of old and new. A soothing color palette and a soft layering of textures provide a casual feel to the living spaces with a hint of sophistication. This inviting home has been designed to cater to large social gatherings, where both owners and guests can socialize in relaxing, open concept living spaces. Overall, we are loving the beautiful interiors and inspiring views of the lake.
