Fergus Garber Architects has designed this ranch style farmhouse for a couple of empty-nesters, located in Menlo Park, a city within the San Francisco Bay Area of California. The owners wished to construct a home that they could live in now and forever. When the opportunity became available for the couple to purchase the property next door to their home, they jumped on it.
They wished to remain in the same neighborhood, however, as empty-nesters, their needs have evolved. The flexible design of the bright and airy new farmhouse-meets-ranch style home supports this next chapter of their lives and provides the opportunity to age in place with an elevator and detached caretaker’s cottage.
