The Design Atelier is responsible for the renovation of this mountain-inspired ski retreat located on the west flank of Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado. An Atlanta-based family with two teenagers wished for a ski getaway where they could spend time together, a tradition carried on from the owner’s own childhood. Breathtaking views of Snowmass and Owl Creek Ranch helped to inspire the remodel of this home.
Additionally, the designer discovered a masterful piece of artwork, a multimedia painting by Todd Murphy that brings a sense of wonder into the home. It is of a stag sporting three-dimensional branch antlers that extend off the canvas several feet in the air. The artwork was placed in the staircase hall and was the inspiration for this home’s neutral color palette — black, white and brown hues. It is sophisticated, organic and rustic with a touch of whimsy.
After renting for years, the family wanted to take roots in this special place, originally looking for a condo. They spotted this beautiful home that came on the market and decided to renovate. The exterior facade is composed of reclaimed barnwood, typical of the region.
On the interior, the wife preferred a more modern aesthetic with a Western vibe. She wanted bright and airy interiors, crisp white walls and white upholstery complimented by touches of blacks and browns. Throughout the interiors scheme you will find rustic elements but with an added twist.
What We Love: This mountain-inspired ski retreat provides a family with an idyllic home to gather in a beautiful setting with some stylish new digs. Nature-inspired elements were a thoughtful way of bringing the outdoors in while adding rustic warmth. We are loving all of the attention to detail that the designer put into this home, to infuse the owner’s personality throughout the interiors to make them feel connected.
