Lewis|Schoeplein architects are responsible for this restored midcentury ranch home nestled in the foothills of Mandeville Canyon, a community in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. This 1960s ranch house had great bones but it was in need of a refresh to accommodate the lifestyle needs of a young family of four. Restructuring the interior layout included opening up the kitchen, creating a new family room and dining area, adding a laundry room and re-imagining the bedrooms and bathrooms.
For the interiors of this project, the family commissioned Veneer Designs to create calming yet livable spaces. Nothing is too precious but the overall look is quite uncluttered and organic. The flow of the open plan living spaces means that all the spaces have to relate. The bedrooms allowed for a little bit more experimentation in the decor, rooms meant to grow with their users. Overall, the new spaces connect to each other and to the rear yard and pool in classic California style.
What We Love: This midcentury ranch home welcomes visitors inside with its sunshine yellow front door. Once inside, you will find a bright and airy floor plan and kid-friendly spaces. The design team did a great job of creating a harmonious flow with indoor-outdoor connectivity. Everything feels clean and modern, yet also reflects on the midcentury roots of the dwelling.
