Classic farmhouse style with soothing interiors in Northern California

farmhouse-style-house-exterior

SDG Architecture is responsible for bringing this classic farmhouse architecture to life using layers of modern textures and elements, located in Atherton, California. Creating a soothing environment in this 6,000 square foot home was paramount for this busy Silicon Valley family. A serene color palette in shades of gray provides a neutral backdrop—evoking a warm, embracing feeling and allowing the beautiful garden views to take center stage.

With this indoor/outdoor setting, a quintessentially Californian experience was made. This home is appointed with enough sophisticated elements to bring a classic farmhouse into the 21st century. However, with modern family living in mind, the project team also created pristine, practical spaces.

What We Love: In this classic farmhouse style home, a serene palette imbues subtle sophistication. This home is designed with warm and inviting spaces that are practical and durable for family living. The project team did a fabulous job of blurring the boundaries between indoors and out to capture the beautiful setting that surrounds this home. Textures and colors are mixed together to create an overall beautiful design aesthetic.

Tell Us: What do you think of the overall aesthetic of this family home? Are there any details that you would like to have seen done differently? Please share your thoughts in the Comments!

Note: Have a look at another fabulous home tour that we have featured here on One Kindesign from the portfolio of the architects of this project, SDG Architecture: Bright and airy modern farmhouse style in Menlo Park, California.

The interior designers selected practical finishes in keeping with the design aesthetic, including the porcelain Ann Sacks kitchen island top (creating the look of Calacatta marble yet without the maintenance). The bar stools are from Lee Industries. Softer, more organic materials provide an elevated look that is also durable enough to withstand the family’s school age children.

The design style of this home proves that serene does not have to be boring. Geometric patterns are at play throughout this dwelling, adding subtle interest.

The room features a centrally located craft table, individual workstations, and a library wall complete with rolling ladder. Nothing is out of reach.

Are the plans available- even a rough layout? Trying to figure out the pool side top floor windows – how many bedrooms on that side of the house?
