Jaw-dropping dream home overlooking the Los Angeles skyline

This massive luxury dream home is designed by McClean Design, located in Bel Air, an enclave in the verdant foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, California. Comprised of a staggering 34,000 square feet, this nine bedroom and 20 bathroom home was built near the street on a 51,417-square-foot property. The location was selected due to both geological constraints and to enable a large garden in the backyard.

The main level features expansive terraces and a pool area that descends to a lawn terrace at the basement level of the three-story residence. The garden, partially set on a plinth-like structure, steps down in the direction of the city view. The entrance sequence, which serves to preserve the privacy of the owners from the street, begins with a lower level circular stone-walled motor court. A stairway leads up to the main areas of the house.

Project Team: Architect: McClean Design | Contractor: Tyler Development | Engineer: John Labib & Associates

The architect paid careful attention to the scale of the spaces, maintaining a casual feeling despite the significant floor area of the residence. The extensive use of Caravela limestone, Mocha Cream limestone, and oak was selected to give this property a soft, contemporary look. “The way the house connects from the entry sequence to the outdoor entertaining areas, gardens, and views is one of the most successful parts of the project,” states the architect.

the house for the person who wants to feel like he never left the office…i like the infinite pool and water wall but the house looks more like an office park than a residence. the other issue with this house (and similar ginormous residential structures) is that it is simply too big. look at the arrangement of furniture in (what i presume to be) the living room. those pieces are so far about that you can hardly imagine it to be an intimate setting. but then, this is a show house and not a place where you would actually want… Read more »

i meant to state: “those pieces are so far apart…” not “those pieces are so far about…”
